FAIRFIELD, Conn.--Rising Fairfield University baseball junior Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) has been named the No. 10 professional prospect out of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL), by Baseball America.
Anderson had a solid summer playing for the Jersey Pilots of the ACBL, while helping the Pilots to its first ACBL Championship since 1996.
A panel of three Baseball America writers and editors, in consultation with league managers and scouts compiled the ranking of the leading professional prospects in 14 of the nation's top summer college wood bat leagues.
The publication tabbed Jeff Sues of Vanderbilt as the top prospect in the ACBL. He was followed by Steve McFarland (Pac), Todd Martin (Tennessee), Kyle Collins (Lehigh), Aaron Kalb (Rutgers), Ross Boudreaux (Southern Arkansas), David Welch (Texarkana JC), Milton Feliciano (Georgia State), Mike LeFort (Rhode Island), and Anderson.
Anderson finished the regular season with a .289 batting average, with one homerun and 14 runs batted in. The shortstop crossed the plate 16 times, and stroked nine doubles in 37 regular season games for the Pilots.
He also had a solid summer in the field, as he was a part of 25 double plays. The Pilots led league, turning 36 in the regular season. He finished the season with a .968 fielding percentage, with 59 put outs and 121 assists.
In the championship game of the ACBL, he went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, in a 9-5 win over the Stamford Robins on Aug. 10. Earlier this summer, Anderson was tabbed a starter for the Wolff Division in the ACBL All-Star Game.
The Delbarton High graduate, batted .279 for the Stags as a sophomore with four homeruns, and 29 runs batted in. He led Fairfield with a .381 on-base percentage, and posted a .435 slugging percentage.
