FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University baseball Head Coach John Slosar announced on Wednesday, that senior Tim Dugan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), and senior David Soucy (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) as the co-captains of the 2005 Fairfield University baseball team.

"Both Tim and David truly lead by example," Slosar said. "With one being a position player and one being a pitcher it is a nice combination to have."

Dugan led Fairfield last season with 61 strikeouts in 73.1 innings of work. He made 12 appearances for the Stags last season, while taking the ball for 10 starts. The New Jersey native was hit with a hard luck, 3-8 record and a 3.56 earned run average; however he was also able to turn in several quality starts for the Red and White.

In a tough 1-0 loss to Marist on March 27, Dugan tossed eight and one-thirds innings of one-run ball, while striking out 11 Red Foxes. In his next outing against Canisius, Dugan pitched a complete-game seven-inning victory, striking out five Golden Griff hitters on a cold and cloudy afternoon. He also had nine strikeouts in a loss to LeMoyne on May 8.

"Tim will be the ace of the staff this season for us," Slosar said. "He is very competitive on the mound, and is an excellent role model and leader for our pitching staff. He's a player that our younger pitchers and the entire team can look up to."

Soucy started every game he played in last season, and led the team with a .309 batting average. He had 12 multiple-hit games in 2004, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance at the plate against Canisius, with a double, three runs batted in and a run scored.

The Glastonbury high school product also went 4-for-5 against Hartford on April 6, with two RBI and a run scored. In addition, Soucy knocked in three runs with a 2-for-4 performance and a double against LeMoyne on May 9. He finished the season with 46 hits, 13 runs batted in, and 15 runs scored.

"David brings a great deal of enthusiasm and enjoy to the ballpark on a daily basis," Slosar said. "He has an outstanding work ethic, and showed a great deal of improvement between his sophomore and junior seasons. This season we'll continue to look for him to play at a higher level."

The Stags will open their 55th season of intercollegiate baseball in early March with a three-game series at Virginia Commonwealth University. Please check www.fairfieldstags.com when the complete 2005 Fairfield University baseball schedule becomes available.
