FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University baseball Head Coach John Slosar announced changes to the spring break trip to Florida today. The Stags will play seven games, in Bradenton, Fla., March 12-17, 2006. All games will take place at Academy Park, at the IMG Baseball Academy.
Fairfield will begin the southern portion of its schedule against Duquesne University on Sunday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. The Dukes finished the 2005 season with a 21-34 overall record and a 13-11 mark in the Atlantic-10.
The Stags will return to Academy Park on Monday, March 13, for a nine-inning contest against Valparaiso University. First pitch against the Crusaders is slated for 10 a.m. Last year, Valpo finished with a 21-31 overall record and a 10-12 mark in the Mid-Continent Conference.
On Tuesday, March 14, the Stags will face a pair of Ohio Valley Conference opponents. The Stags will face Eastern Kentucky at 10:30 a.m., and will come back to face Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m. Last year, Eastern Kentucky was 26-31 and 14-12 in Ohio Valley action. Eastern Illinois was 17-39 last year and 14-13 in the Ohio Valley.
The Stags will face a 2005 NCAA Tournament opponent in Army on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m. The Black Knights posted a 39-14 overall record in 2005 and won the Patriot League title with a 17-3 record. In the NCAA Tournament, Army lost a close 3-2 decision to Florida State, but came back to defeat South Alabama, 8-5, before falling to Auburn 12-3, in the Tallahassee Regional.
Fairfield and Fairleigh Dickinson square off on Thursday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. The Knights went 12-26 in 2005, and recorded a 10-13 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.
The trip will conclude with Bradley University on Friday, March 17. First pitch for the St. Patrick's Day affair is slated for 3 p.m. The Braves were 28-22 overall a year ago and 10-14 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Fairfield begins the 2006 season February 24-26 with a three-game series at James Madison University. Following the spring break trip, the Stags will host St. John's University on March 21. First pitch for the home opener is slated for 3 p.m. at Alumni Diamond.
