2006-07: Anthony Johnson started 31 games a year ago, missing only the Missisippi game. He led all Fairfield newcomers with an 8.6 scoring average as well as with a 4.8 rebounding average. The forward just missed a double double in his debut, registering eight points and 10 rebounds against American. He narrowly missed a double double against Manhattan with nine points and 10 rebounds, but reached the coveted mark with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Loyola. His 12 points started a run of five straight games of 10 or more points, the longest streak of the season. He capped the stretch with 16 points against William & Mary, which helped him average 15.6 points per game. Johnson scored 16 points three times during the year (Canisius, Niagara, and William & Mary), all of which came at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Johnson scored 10 or more points in 12 games a year ago. At the end of the regular season, Johnson placed sixth in the MAAC for field goal percentage (.536), seventh in blocked shots (1.03 per game), and eighth in offensive rebounds (2.55 per game). He tallied 82 offensive rebounds during the year, 11 more than his defensive rebound total, and had more offensive than defensive rebounds in 15 contests.
Before Fairfield: Anthony Johnson helped Lake Wales High School win 20 or more games in each of his four seasons as a forward. The team won 90 games during that time, including 26 victories in his senior season. Johnson was a primary contributor to the cause last year, averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. His play did not go unnoticed by his peers, earning the team's most valuable player and defensive player of the year awards. Johnson was also a member of the All-Area, All-County, and All-State first team, honors which he also secured as a sophomore and as a junior. His leadership was recognized by his teammates as they selected him team captain for his junior and senior seasons. Johnson was a key player in Lake Wales run to the regional championship game a year ago. For his career, Johnson averaged 14 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks per game. His ability to block shots should help him challenge for quality minutes this year. The coaching staff looks for him to provide strong defensive play down low. Johnson's ability to block shots will keep the opposition off balance. His range and athleticism will force opponents to deal with his presence, especially down low.
