Mamadou Diakhate missed the first part of the 2006-07 season with a concussion that forced him out of the lineup for six games. When he returned, the forward made an impact with seven points against Georgetown, which he followed with a season-high seven-rebound evening against Loyola-Chicago. His most dramatic moment came in late January when he netted a three-point basket at the buzzer to tie the Iona game and send the contest into overtime. Fairfield went on to win the game, and keep the Gaels winless to that point. Diakhate tallied a career-high 13 points that night by making five of eight field goal attempts. He came back with an 11-point effort against Saint Peter's three days later, the first time he tallied back-to-back double-digit games in his career. He nearly equaled his career-high with 12 points against Marist at home, making all three of his 10-plus point games at home. He averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game over 26 appearances. His lone start came at Saint Peter's in the regular-season finale, scoring seven points with five rebounds. He shot better than 50 percent from the field in seven of the 18 games in which he attempted a field goal.
2005-06: Diakhate joined the team in the second semester after completing a one-year hiatus due to NCAA transfer rules. He quickly became a part of the Stags inside game, averaging 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game through the first seven contests. During that streak, the forward tallied a season-high nine points with five rebounds against Niagara University. He later surpassed that rebounding total with eight caroms in 20 minutes against Manhattan. Diakhate enjoyed two eight-point performances as well, hitting the mark against Iona twice. Diakhate, who finished the season with a .500 field goal percentage, shot 50 percent or better on nine occasions with the most recent time coming against Loyola Chicago (three for five - six points). Diakhate helped his teammates on the boards as well, grabbing a rebound in 16 of his 18 appearances. He tallied four or more rebounds in seven games.
Before Fairfield: Diakhate played one year at Eastern Kentucky University before deciding to transfer to Fairfield University last December. As a member of the Eastern Kentucky basketball team, Diakhate played in 14 games and started six of those contests. He registered 54 points (3.9 ppg) and 33 rebounds (2.4 rpg) in his 14 appearances. Diakhate tallied a season-high 12 points against Ohio Wesleyan, netting three of six field goal attempts. All three of his baskets came from behind the three-point arc that game. He secured a season-best eight rebounds in the season opener against St. Louis University, playing 38 minutes. The forward just missed double figures with nine points against the University of Florida. He attended St. Mary's High School in New York before attending Eastern Kentucky. Diakhate averaged 22.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 6.3 assists as a senior. He was named the NYSCHSAA Player of the Year, and was chosen for the All-Metropolitan team that year. A two-time New York All-Star, Diakhate earned two Nassau County Player of the Year awards from New York Newsday. His basketball resume also includes berths to the 2003 All-Wendy's Classic Team, the 2002 Adidas ABCD Camp team, and a first team selection for the 2001 All-Island Eight.
