2006-07: Mike Evanovich sat out the 2006-07 season in accordance with the NCAA residency rule. He came to Fairfield after transferring from Iowa State University.
Before Fairfield: Evanovich appeared in eight games at Iowa State University during the 2005-06 season, averaging nearly three minutes per outing. He tallied five points and three rebounds while in the lineup, and scored in three of his eight appearances. He had two-point efforts against Howard and Missouri, and secured a season-high two rebounds and played a personal-best nine minutes against Howard. Evanovich spent one season at South Kent Prep where he helped the team post a 32-9 record, averaging 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He attended E.O. Smith High School, where he earned All-State honorable mention honors from The Hartford Courant. As a junior, Evanovich averaged 15.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He was a three-time All-Conference player and earned two berths to the All-State squad. The forward earned the conference player of the year award as a junior and as a senior. He capped his career by receiving a nomination to the prestigious McDonald's All-America team. His individual success also helped his team earn success on the court. He led E.O. Smith to two conference championships, and helped South Kent Prep reach the NEPSAC Division A championship game.
