Before Fairfield:
Yorel Hawkins begins his first season as a member of the Fairfield University men's basketball program after a successful career at Apex High School. He earned All-Tri-8 conference honors as a senior, and picked up All-State second team accolades as a senior. He finished his career at Apex High School as the program's all-time leading scorer, netting nearly 1,500 points during his four-year stay. With his assistance, Apex captured three straight conference championships. He earned the conference player of the year as a junior. Hawkins registered a double double as a senior, averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. He just missed out on a double double during his junior season, finishing the year with 20.3 points and nine rebounds per outing. He was one of 20 players selected for the North Carolina East-West All-Star game, joining curent Fairfield University teammate Sean Grzek for that honor.
