Men's Basketball Assistant Aki Collins Leaves Fairfield After Two Seasons

           FAIRFIELD, Conn. - David "Aki" Collins has accepted a position as assistant men's basketball coach at Marquette University. Collins spent the last two seasons as an assistant men's basketball coach under Head Coach Ed Cooley. The announcement was made at a press conference on the Marquette campus this afternoon.

            "I wish Aki Collins the best as he begins his new position at Marquette University," Cooley said. "Aki's knowledge of the game and his ability to recruit student- athletes will help him make an immediate contribution to the Marquette program. I appreciate all of his hard work and dedication to the Fairfield University basketball program over the last two seasons."

            Collins came to Fairfield University after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Marshall University. His coaching resume also includes three years as an assistant at Howard University, as well as three campaigns as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Collins started his collegiate career at  Morehouse College before transferring to Clark University as a sophomore.

            The Fairfield University men's basketball team finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-16 overall record and an 11-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) mark under Head Coach Ed Cooley.
