NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Six second-half three point shots helped propel Iona College to a 67-52 victory over the men's basketball team Friday night. Anthony Johnson and Warren Edney led the Stags offense with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Stags defense played a role in their ability to take an early lead, forcing seven turnovers off four steals in the opening half. The Gaels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening two minutes before Yorel Hawkins put the visitors on the board with jumper at 17:42. A minute later, Anthony Johnson took a three-point shot with the shot clock winding down, and was fouled. The sophomore hit two of the three shots to give Fairfield its first lead at 4-3.

Devon Clark regained the lead for Iona with a jumper inside the lane, before Greg Nero answered with a lay up off a drive to the basket. Nero's hoop started a 10-6 spurt that push Fairfield to its biggest lead at 15-10 with just over seven minutes to go. Iona used a pressure defense in the closing minutes of the half that resulted in three straight turnovers and six points to cap an 8-0 run that gave the Gaels their biggest lead at 30-23. Jonathan Han's three-point shot at the buzzer salvaged the half for the Stags and made the score 30-26 at the half.

Milan Prodanovic, who went 1 for 5 in the first half beyond the three-point arc, found his touch early in the second half from long range. The guard made four of five three point shots in the second half, including the team's first hoop of the second half. The Stags kept close early, still trailing by only six points at the 17:42 mark at 38-32.

Iona went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game at 49-34 with 13:23 left in the game. The Stags never came closer than 13 points the rest of the way, reaching that mark for the last time at 54-41 with 7:37 left on the clock.

Fairfield tallied more turnovers (21) than field goals (18) in the game. Prodanovic led all scorers in the game with 21 points.

The Stags return to action on Monday, January 21 when it hosts Saint Peter's College at Alumni Hall. The game is slated for 7 pm. The contest will also be televised locally on Cablevision.
