Feb 7, 2008
Fairfield University (8-14 overall, 6-6 MAAC) finishes its three-game road trip on Friday night by taking on Manhattan College after spending last weekend in upstate New York. The Stags gained a split in the Buffalo games by posting a 76-72 victory against Niagara University on Sunday afternoon. The victory was Fairfield's first at Niagara since the 2003-03 campaign, ending a three-game run. Jonathan Han led all Fairfield scorers with 16 points, his highest scoring total since he set his career high of 24 points at Saint Peter's on December 28. His scoring total increased to 11.1 points per game, the only Fairfield player to average better than 10 points per game. Anthony Johnson came off the bench against the Purple Eagles, and responded with 10 points to extend his double-digit scoring streak to a personal-best six games. He also leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 caroms per contest.
Manhattan College (8-14 overall, 2-10 MAAC) returns home after dropping a 78-68 decision to Saint Peter's College on Sunday. The Jaspers are looking to halt a seven-game losing streak that started after its January 11 win at Canisius College, 69-65. Tonight's game is the first of five straight home games for the Jaspers, which includes a BracketBuster game against Binghamton. Against Saint Peter's, Antoine Pearson tallied a team-high 19 points, which should be no surprise since the sophomore has been the team's leading scorer nine times this year. Pearson leads the team in scoring with an 11.9 scoring average. Devon Austin is the only other Jasper in double figures with 10.5 points every forty minutes. The junior is the team's top three-point shooting threat with 31 baskets in 22 games. Rasheed Green has been the most dominant Manhattan player on the boards, posting a team-best 4.9 rebounds per game.
