NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Jonathan Han tallied a team-high 16 points and added nine rebounds to lift the men's basketball team to a 76-72 victory over Niagara University, gaining a split in upstate New York this weekend. Five Fairfield players reached double digits in the game.

The Stags led nearly the entire game, thanks to extremely accurate shooting in the first half. The team shot 56 percent from the floor and made all 13 free throws in the first half, which enabled Fairfield to take a nine-point half time lead at 45-36. The Stags led by as many as 14 points at 4  1-27 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.

Fairfield did most of the damage with an 11-1 run in just under three minutes that turned a 20-17 lead into a 31-18 advantage with eight minutes on the clock. Anthony Johnson had four points while Herbie Allen added a three-point basket to the run.

Niagara came out in the second half and challenged the Stags by scoring the first seven points of the half to pull within two points at 45-43. Han answered the charge with a three-point shot that gave Fairfield more breathing room. The Stags eventually pushed the lead to eight points, but Niagara came back with an 8-0 run to tie the score at 57-57 with 12 minutes remaining.

Fairfield regained the lead briefly before eventually took the lead on Benson Egemonye's dunk that made the score 60-59. That one point advantage became a three-point edge a few minutes later after Charron Fisher made a pair of free throws. Not much later, Mike Evanovich hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to tie the score at 64-64 with 6:45 on the clock.

Han followed up with a pair of free throws to give Fairfield the lead at 66-64 with just over six minutes on the clock, a lead that the Stags would never surrender. However, the game was not really over until Yorel Hawkins netted a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining to turn a two-point lead into a four-point edge, 76-72. Hawkins finished the game with 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Fairfield finishes its three-game road trip on Friday night when it travels to Manhattan College.
