
Men's Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale Against Rider University

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The men's basketball team's seven-game win streak came to an abrupt halt on Sunday afternoon as Rider University posted an 87-59 victory at Alumni Gymnasium
The Stags jumped out to an early 9-2 lead as Jonathan Han tallied five of those nine points. The quick start did not last long as Rider went on its own 9-2 spurt that tied the score at 11-11 with 14:26 remaining in the first half. The Broncs kept things going with another four points to take a 15-11 advantage before the Stags answered with Greg Nero's lay up at 10:12.
Rider continued to build upon its first half lead to the point where it reached seven points at 30-23. Fairfield battled back to cut that deficit nearly in half at four points, 30-26 with 2:40 remaining in the half. The Broncs answered with eight straight points to close out the half, giving the home team its biggest lead of the game at intermission, 38-26.
The Stags tallied the first three points of the second half on Marty O'Sullivan's lay up and one Warren Edney free throw, making the score 38-29 with 18:29 remaining in the game. Rider came back with an 8-2 spurt that pushed the lead to its largest point at 46-31.
Fairfield never came closer than 12 points the rest of the way as Rider went on to win the game by 27 points. Han finished the game with a team-high 13 points, while O'Sullivan just missed a double double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jason Thompson led the Broncs with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Harris Mansell came off the bench to tally a game-high 17 points.
The Stags' next game will take place on Saturday, March 8 at the MAAC tournament. The tourney takes place at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Official pairings will be announced by the MAAC office at a later time.
