
Han's Double Double Leads Stags To 72-61 Exhibition Win Over Bridgeport

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Jonathan Han recorded a double double with 12 points and 10 assists to lift the Stags to a 72-61 win over Division II University of Bridgeport in an exhibition game at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Four Fairfield players reached double figures, led by a team-high 14 points by sophomore Greg Nero. Anthony Johnson tallied 12 points, while Herbie Allen added 11 markers to give four of the team's starting five players 10 or more points. The Stags front court made 13 of 22 shots from the floor (59 percent), with Nero hitting five of seven field goal attempts.
The Purple Knights led throughout the first half, taking their biggest lead at the 4:59 mark when Anthony Davis hit a three-point basket to make the score 22-18. The Stags answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead at 26-24. Anthony Johnson scored the first four poins of the run which enabled the home team to tie the score.
Bridgeport managed o tie in the game at the 1:06 mark when Mantas Armonas hit one of two shots to make the score 28-28. Devin Johnson broke the tie for the Stags with a layup in the closing seconds to give Fairfield the lead at halftime, 30-28.
After Bridgeport tied the game on its opening possession of the second half, Fairfield used a quick four-point spurt to take the lead for good at 34-30. Mamadou Diakhate and Allen each contributed a bucket to the cause. The Stags lead reached nine points with 15:53 remaining on the clock, as Allen's three pointer made the score 41-32.
Bridgeport never came closer than four points, which occurred with 12 miinutes left after Lex James' layup made the score 44-40. The Stags went on a 7-1 run the James basket to push the lead to double figures at 51-41. Fairfield's biggest lead was 17 points, 72-55 with 2:18 on the clock.
Bridgeport's James was the game's high scorer with 19 points, making eight of 10 shots from the floor.
The Stags open the 2007-08 regular season next Friday when they battle Wake Forest University. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
