Fairfield University (6-12 overall, 4-4 MAAC) plays the middle game of a three-game home stand tonight, a stretch which started with a 70-64 win over Saint Peter's at Alumni Hall last Monday evening. The win halted a three-game skid for the Stags, and also brought the team its first conference home victory. The game was played at Alumni Hall, the team's final appearance at the on-campus facility this year. Herbie Allen returned to the lineup after missing one game with a sprained thumb. The junior responded with 14 points, including a game-sealing three-point shot with 19 seconds remaining that turned a three-point lead into a six-point advantage. Mike Evanovich led all scorers in the game with 19 points, raising his scoring average to 8.0 points per game. Jonathan Han remains the team's leading scorer with a 10.7 scoring average, the only double-digit player on the team.
Canisius College (3-15 overall, 1-7 MAAC) comes off a 77-49 loss at Siena College in its last outing. Frank Turner tallied a team-high 15 points in the game, the fourth straight game that the guard has been the Griffs top scorer. Turner is one of the conference's top all-around players, ranking 15th among MAAC leading scorers (12.1 ppg) and fourth in assists (4.4 apg). He is the only Griff scoring more than 10 points per game, as no other Canisius player is averaging better than eight points per game. Willie Hassell and Pavel Malesa have been consistent scorers this year. Hassell, who averages 7.4 points per game, has been the team's leading scorer three times, while Malesa, who tallies 7.3 points per outing, has led the team in scoring four times Tomas Vazquez-Simmons represents the team's top rebounder (5.3 rpg) and top shot blocker (2.4 bpg).
