Stags Finish Up Non-Conference Schedule With Game At Drexel
Feb 21, 2008
Fairfield University (12-14 overall) extended its winning streak to five games with an 87-85 double overtime victory against Marist College at home Monday night. All five wins have come across conference opponents. The Stags return to non-conference play for the first time since dropping a 71-50 decision to William & Mary on the road. Fairfield will try to reverse its fortune in non-conference play this year, bringing a 2-8 mark against non-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes into today. Two Fairfield players registered a double double in the win over Marist, led by Marty O'Sullivan's 23 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Johnson also reached the mark with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Han padded his team-leading scoring mark with 21 points, raising his scoring average to 11.2 points per game. Johnson remains the team's top rebounder with 7.2 caroms per contest, a number aided by his six double-figure rebounding totals this year.
Drexel University (11-17 overall) dropped a 57-50 decision to William & Mary in its last outing. The team will look to remain unbeaten against MAAC foes this afternoon, posting wins against Loyola (54-52) and Rider (73-66). Frank Elegar and Tramayne Hawthorne have been providing most of the team's offensive punch by averaging 15.1 and 11.3 points per game respectively. Elegar has been the team's top scorer in 12 games this season, highlighted by a 33-point performance in a 67-63 loss to Delaware. Hawthorne has been the leader or co-leader 10 times this year, including a 23-point effort in a 58-51 win over Georgia State last month. Elegar is also the team's top rebounder with 8.3 caroms per contest. He's been the team's leading rebounder in 18 games this year, including the last three contests.
