Fifth-Seeded Men's Basketball Draws Fourth-Seeded Loyola In MAAC Tourney Opener

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will play Loyola College in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament opener on Saturday afternoon. The Stags secured the fifth seed in the tournament after dropping its regular-season finale against Rider University. Loyola fell to the fourth seed after it lost at Marist College on Sunday afternoon.

The Stags and the Greyhounds will open the second day of the men's tournament by playing at 2:15 pm. The winner of the game will draw top-seeded Siena College on Sunday evening at 6 pm. The Saints are the tournament host, as the tournament takes place at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

The Stags enter the MAAC tournament with a 14-15 overall record and an 11-7 MAAC mark, and ended the season with seven wins in their final eight games. Jonathan Han paced the team during the regular season with an 11.7 scoring average. Anthony Johnson placed second among his teammates with 9.6 points per game, but led the team with seven rebounds per outing.

The Greyhounds own an 18-12 overall record with a 12-6 MAAC slate after its setback to Marist College. Loyola has three players who average better than 10 points per game, led by Gerald Brown's 18.8 points per game. Marquis Sullivan (12.4 ppg) and Michael Tuck (11.7 ppg) are the other double digit scorers.
