Stags Open Conference Season Against Siena College Friday Night

The men's basketball team opens the conference portion of its schedule when it hosts Siena College at the Arena at Harbor Yard on December 7. Fairfield University (2-6 overall) plays the second of three consecutive home games this evening, making its return to the Arena at Harbor Yard after starting the home stand with a game at Alumni Hall. The Stags came up short at their on-campus facility, dropping a 70-68 overtime decision to Yale University. Greg Nero tallied a double double with 21 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for the Stags, scoring 16 of those points in the second half. Nero moved above the 10-point mark for scoring average, netting 10.8 points per game through the first eight contest. Jonathan Han remains the team's top scorer with 11.6 points every forty minutes. Anthony Johnson sets the pace on the glass with a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game. Nero's 10 caroms against Yale raised his season average to 5.1 per game.

Siena College (3-3 overall) comes off a 75-71 win over the University at Albany, thanks in part to a double double by Alex Franklin. The sophomore tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds, his second straight double double and fourth straight game with 10 or more rebounds. Franklin leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game and places second in scoring with 16.8 points per contest. Kenny Hasbrouck is the team's top scoring threat with an 18.2 scoring average. Edwin Ubiles (16.7 ppg) and Ronald Moore (11.8 ppg) are also scoring in double figures for the season. The Saints have won three of their last four outings, including a victory over nationally-ranked Stanford on November 17 (79-67). Josh Duell led the team in that game with 16 markers. After tonight's game, the Saints will play six of its next seven at home, with the lone road game coming at Memphis on January 3. Siena leads the conference with 10 steals per game, four of which come from conference leader Kenny Hasbrouck.
