Stags Return To Non-Conference Play At William & Mary On New Year's Eve

Dec 30, 2007

Game Notes

Fairfield University (3-8 overall) plays its second road game in four days when it heads south for a match up with William & Mary. The December 31st meeting is a return game from last year's BracketBuster contest played at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The Stags come off an 89-78 overtime win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Saint Peter's College, as Fairfield erased an eight-point deficit with 2:25 remaining in regulation. The 89 points marked a season-high for team scoring, and evened the team's record in overtime games this year. Jonathan Han raised his scoring average nearly one point per game with a career-high 24 points. The guard leads the team with a 12.5 scoring average, as well as with 5.7 assists per game. More impressive, Han is the team's top shooter with a .530 field goal percentage. Anthony Johnson, who tallied his second straight double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, is the team's top rebounder with 7.0 caroms per game.

The College of William & Mary (3-7 overall) opened the season with back-to-back losses against nationally-ranked Georgetown (#5) and North Carolina State (#21). Since then, the Tribe has posted three wins in its last eight outings, including two wins at home. William & Mary has scored more than 70 points four times this year, three of which came at home including a season-high 87 points against Montreat on December 22. Chris Darnell and Danny Sumner each scored a team-high 16 points in that game. David Schneider leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game, while teammate Laimis Kisielius checks in second with 10.9 points every 40 minutes. Schneider is also the team statistical leader for rebounding (5.0 rpg) and assists (3.9 apg). William & Mary begins a run of home games that includes hosting Fairfield, Delaware, and James Madison over the next nine days.
