Men's Basketball Falls To Marist On The Road, 75-66

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Herbie Allen scored a game-high 21 points while Mike Evanovich added 18 points as the Fairfield University men's basketball team dropped a 75-66 decision at Marist College.

The Stags never led in the game as the Red Foxes jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening four minutes of the game. Allen put the Stags on the scoreboard with a three-point field goal with 16:23 on the clock. Marist's Dejuan Goodwin answered with a three-point shot, the first of four long-range jumpers in the first half for the guard.

Fairfield stayed close and trailed by only four points with eight minutes remaining in the first half, but Marist put together a 8-2 run over the next two minutes to a double digit lead at 32-22 with six minutes on the clock. Marist would eventually push the lead to 14 points at halftime at 39-25.

The Red Foxes continued to build on their lead in the second half, taking the advantage to as many as 20 points at 61-41 with eight minutes remaining before the Stags made a mild comeback that saw them cut the deficit to single digits. Fairfield came as close as seven points at 70-53 with one minute remaining but Marist made five straight free throws down the stretch to keep Fairfield out of reach.

Yorel Hawkins also reached double figures for the Stags with 10 points while Ryan Schneider and Goodwin led all Marist scorers with 17 points each.
