BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team opened the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of its schedule with a 76-56 win over Saint Peter's behind 11-point efforts by Jonathan Han and Mike Evanovich. The victory extended the Stags' unbeaten streak to four games and improved their overall record to 5-3.

For the second straight game, Fairfield never trailed in the game. In fact, the home team took control from the opening tip by scoring the first 16 points of the contest, holding the Peacocks scoreless for nearly eight minutes. Saint Peter's managed to cut the lead to 10 points with 4:34 remaining in the first half, but was never able to pull closer for the rest of the game.

It was a total team effort in the opening minutes as four of the five starters scored a basket in the initial 9-0 run. Warren Edney scored off a layup to make the score 2-0, followed by a three-point shot by Han on the next possession. Greg Nero's dunk pushed the lead to 7-0, while Anthony Johnson's jumper gave the Stags a nine-point advantage. After Nero's jumper, Mike Evanovich and Yorel Hawkins netted a basket, giving Fairfield six different scorers in the first seven minutes.

Four Fairfield student athletes reached double figures in the game. In addition to Han and Evanovich, Anthony Johnson and Herbie Allen each added 10 points to the cause. Evanovich was the only reserve to score more than 10 points.

The Stags shot the ball well for the second straight game, hitting 50 percent of their shots in the first half (58.3 percent) as well as the second half (53.8 percent). Fairfield netted 50 percent of its three-point attempts, hitting nine of 18 with Han and Evanovich each netting three of five shots from behind the arc.

Han continued his march to 500 career assists by dishing off seven against Saint Peter's, raising his career total to 467 assists. He is trying to become only the fourth Fairfield student athlete to reach 500 career assists, joining A.J. Wynder (522), Joe DeSantis (667), and John Ryan (675).

Fairfield returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Iona College at the Arena at Harbor Yard in a MAAC game. Game time is slated for 3:30 pm.
