BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Senior Sam Spann scored a triple-double, while senior Ajou Deng netted a team-high as Fairfield University (3-7 overall, 2-1 MAAC) posted a 95-75 victory over St. Peter's College (1-12 overall, 0-5 MAAC).
Spann earned the triple-double with 10 points, a career-high 11 assists and 12 rebounds. He reached the triple double when he gathered his 10th rebound, tossed an outlet pass to a wide open Deng Gai, who slammed the ball which gave Spann his 10th assist. Six Fairfield players scored in double-digits, as Gai netted 19 points and blocked eight shots in 32 minutes.
St. Peter's grabbed an early lead, scoring the first three points of the game. Trailing 7-6, Gai scored on a three-point shot to put Fairfield ahead 9-7 with 17:16 left in the first half. Fairfield never relinquished the lead from that point. The Stags went on a 17-5 run for a 26-12 lead, giving the team its biggest lead of the first half. Gai had six points, while Jeremy Logan added five points during the run.
Fairfield held a 46-35 halftime advantage, and kept that double-digit lead for most of the second half. The lead eventually reached 21 points, 80-59 with 6:10 remaining, before the Stags settled for the 20-point victory. Rob Thomson led the Fairfield bench with 13 points, while reserves Kudjo Sogadzi (11 points) and Logan (10 points) also reached double-digits.
St. Peter's Corine John and Melvin Robinson each tallied a team-high 21 points, while Drew Dudley added 12 points.
