NEW YORK (AP) - Luis Flores scored 27 points and Von Damien Green added 19 to lead Manhattan to its 12 straight win, 88-72 over Fairfield on Thursday night.

The Jaspers (12-1, 4-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) are enjoying the second-best start in school history. Their only loss came at Syracuse in the Preseason NIT. Manhattan won its first 17 games in the 1930-31 season.

Manhattan went ahead to stay with a run of 11 unanswered points midway through the first half. Flores scored five points in the spurt, which ended in a layup by Jared Johnson that created a 21-11 margin. The Jaspers led 39-27 at the break.

Manhattan led by as many as 23 points when Dave Holmes sank a 3-pointer for a 62-39 margin with 12 minutes remaining.

Fairfield (3-8, 2-2) climbed to within 64-59 with 8:25 remaining on two foul shots by Kudjo Sogadzi, who had 22 points.

Flores put the Jaspers back in control by sandwiching two free throws and a short jumper around two foul shots by Holmes.

Fairfield built a substantial advantage at the foul line, where it converted 29 of 36 attempts to 18-of-26 for Manhattan. But the Stags were hurt by 19 turnovers against Manhattan's trapping defense.
