NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Terrence Todd scored a career-high 30 points while Herbie Allen came off the bench to score all 16 of his points in the second half, as Fairfield University fell to Iona College by an 89-77 score at the Hynes Center. Alvin Carter recorded a career-high 12 points for the Stags.

The game started with a two ties and one lead change in the opening four minutes, the last coming when Geoff Middleton tied the score at 4-4 with a free throw. Todd scored on Fairfield's next possession to push the Stags in front for the first time, 6-4. Jonathan Han doubled that advantage with a layup, making the score 8-4 with 15:29 remaining in the first half.

The Stags still held a slight advantage at the 13-minute mark when Todd hit another jumper to make the score 12-9. Iona eventurally tied the score and took the lead at 18-17 after a pair of free throws from Kenny Jackson with 9:26 left on the clock. Todd came right back down the court and pushed Fairfield in front for the final time with a jumper that made the score 19-18.

The Gaels scored the next 10 minutes to grab a 28-19 lead with 6:34 remaining in the half, as back-to-back three-point baskets by Marvin McCullough provided most of the run. Fairfield battled its way back to a five-point deficit at 30-25, as two free throws by both Han and Mamadou Diakhate sandwiched a Todd jumper for a 6-2 Stags spurt.

However, Iona answered with a 15-6 run over the final five minutes allowed the home team to head into intermission with a double-digit lead at 45-31.

The second half saw Fairfield fall behind by as many as 20 points at 61-41 with 12 minutes left, before the Stags outscored the Gaels by a 16-6 count over the next five minutes to cut the deficit in half to 10 points, 67-57. Allen tallied two of his three-point baskets during that stretch. Fairfield never came closer than 10 points from that point, as a three pointer by Allen kept the Stags within 10 points in closing two minutes at 83-73.

Steve Burtt led all Iona scorers with 25 points, hitting a pair of three-point baskets. Kiril Wachsmann tallied a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Gaels.
