NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Courtney Fields had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Solomon Brown scored 15 points to lead Iona to a 90-79 victory over Fairfield on Friday night.
Greg Jenkins added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Dyree Wilson 13 points and 10 rebounds for Iona (8-11, 5-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).
Sam Spann scored 23 points and Deng Gai added 16 for Fairfield (4-10, 3-4), which was outrebounded 47-29.
The Gaels opened up their biggest lead, 74-53, on Maceo Wofford's two foul shots with 6:11 remaining.
Fairfield then went on a 23-10 run to make it 84-76 on Tyquawn Goode's 3-pointer with 24 seconds to go. But Iona preserved the victory by converting its last six foul shots, including four by Brown.
The Gaels took command early with a 10-4 run that gave them a 29-19 lead. Kenya Carruthers ended the run by converting an offensive rebound with 4:27 left in the half.
Iona, which led 39-30 at halftime, had three players finish in double
figures in points and rebounds.
