BALTIMORE, Md. - Terrence Todd scored a career-high 35 points, his second 30-point game in the last three outings, to lift the Fairfield University men's basketball team to an 80-72 win over Loyola College. The Stags completed their longest road trip of the season with a 3-3 record, and improved their overall record to 6-11 and their MAAC mark to 4-4.
The Stags jumped out to a quick start thanks to Todd, as the senior guard tallied the first six points of the game to take a 6-0 advantage just two minutes into the contest. Fairfield's lead remained intact for the first 13 minutes of the game until back-to-back three pointers by Andre Collins turned a three-point deficit into a three-point lead at 22-19.
Michael Van Schaick tied the game with a three-point basket, which DeWitt Maxwell followed on the next possession with a layup to make the score 24-22. The Stags held on to their lead at intermission when Todd's layup gave the team a 31-30 advantage at the half.
Fairfield still remained in front by a point with 13 minutes remaining at 41-40 until Collins' three-point basket recaptured the lead for the Greyhounds at 43-41. The Stags battled back to tie the score at 48-48 and take the lead at 49-48 when Van Schaick tacked on a pair of free throws. Those two free throws started a 16-4 run that put Fairfield in control at 63-52 with just over four minutes remaining in the game. Herbie Allen tallied six points on two three-point shots during the run, while Van Schaick and Todd each added five markers during the run.
Van Schaick finished the game with a career-high 18 points while Allen added 15 markers for the Stags. Collins led all Loyola scorers with 26 points.
