Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Michael Bell scored a career-high 20 points, and Terrence Todd matched him with another 20 points, lifting Faifield University (10-8 overall, 3-4 MAAC) to a 75-56 win over Loyola College (0-18, 0-9). The effort marked the fourth time this season that Todd reached the 20-point plateau this season.

The two teams battled back and forth to start the game, before Loyola used a late first half spurt to take a six-point lead at halftime. The first half saw four lead changes and four ties, the last of which came offCharlie Bell's jumper to push the Greyhounds in front, 25-24. Loyola pushed that lead to six points as Bell hit a three-pointer while Bernard Allen and Sean Corrigan added a hoop to complete a 7-2 run which ended the first half.

The Stags came out in the second half and used a 22-0 run, which started with back-to-back jump shots by DeWitt Maxwell. Loyola went 0 for 7 from the floor and 0 for 4 from the free throw line over the first eight ninutes of the second half, allowing Fairfield to put together its string of points. Meanwhile, the Red and White hit their first six shots from the floor and all eight of their free throws during the same stretch of time.

Loyola still kept its self in the game, cutting the lead to under 10 on a couple of occasions. The Greyhounds outscored Fairfield 14-7 after they fell behind by 16, making the score 60-51. But, Fairfield scored 17 of the next 21 points in a five-minute stretch to take its biggest lead of the game at 75-53 with 44 seconds remaining.

In the second half, Fairfield shot 62 percent from the floor, making 13 of 21 shots overall and six of nine three-point attempts. More impressive was the fact that the Stags went 17 of 17 from the free throw line in the the second half after not attempting a charity toss in the first half.
