POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Dennis Young and Rick Smith scored 20 points each as Marist defeated Fairfield, 93-84, on Saturday night.
Marist (13-6) took command early on as Steve Castleberry scored seven of his career-high nine points. The Red Foxes stretched their lead to 20 points, 53-33 with 1:53 left in the first half.
Marist led 54-35 at halftime as Smith knocked down one of two free throws resulting from a bench technical on Fairfield (6-11). The Red Foxes expanded their led to 75-49. The Stags cut the deficit to five points, 89-84, with 56 seconds left but could not get any closer.
Sam Spann led Fairfield with a game-high 21 points. Nick Delfico finished with 17 points, Kudjo Sogadzi had 15 and Rob Thomson netted 12.
Sean Kennedy and Nick Eppehimer scored 14 points each for Marist.
