BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Terrance Todd reached two milestones on Saturday night, but his point total was not enough to overcome Marist College in a 67-61 loss at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The Stags finished the regular season with a 9-18 overall record and a 7-11 mark.
Todd became the sixth Fairfield University player to reach the 1,500-point mark in school history, and surpassed the 500-point mark for the season, one of only 12 Stags to accomplish the task. The senior guard finished the game with a game-high 22 points, 13 of which came in the second half.
The Red Foxes jumped out to an early lead, holding a seven-point lead at 23-16 midway through the first half. The Stags tallied the next four points on a layup by Michael Van Schaick and a layup by Todd, making the score 23-20. The Stags eventually battled back to tie the score at 28-28 with 2:23 left in the first half. Marist regained the lead with a three-point play from Jared Jordan, before the Stags ended the half with two free throws from Todd to make the halftime score, 31-30.
The visitors opened the second half with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three-point basket by Will Whittington. The Red Foxes' lead nearly doubled over the next six minutes, using a 13-6 run to push the lead to 15 points. The Stags cut into the lead over the next five minutes, pulling to within four points after a three-point basket followed by a layup by Danny Oglesby at the 5:24 mark, which made the score 58-54. Fairfield did not pull any closer than four points the rest of the way, as Marist settled for the six-point win.
Michael Bell finished the night with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Stags, while DeWitt Maxwell added 11 markers and five caroms. Jordan led all Marist scorers with 19 points.
