Final Stats

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -Clarence Sanders scored 21 points and Bam Doyne had 20 with 12 rebounds as Mississippi hung on to a 70-67 victory over Fairfield Friday in the Hispanic College Fund Classic tournament at the Hartford Civic Center.

Ole Miss (3-0) led by as much as 12 points in the second half but Michael Van Schaick hit a 3-pointer with 7.2 seconds left to cut Mississippi's lead to just 68-67.

Fairfield (0-4) fouled Justin Cerasoli on the in-bounds play, but Cerasoli hit both free throw with 6.1 seconds to seal the victory. Fairfield's Danny Oglesby hit the side of the rim at the buzzer.

Greg Nero led Fairfield with 19 points and had three blocked shots.

Ole Miss took an early 11-5 lead on a Doyne 3-pointer with 15:29 left in the first half. Fairfield came back and managed to take a 23-17 lead on a Nero free throw with 5:57 left.

But Ole Miss went on a 20-5 run, capped by a Doyne 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Mississippi a 37-28 lead at the half. Sanders led Ole Miss in the first half with 14 points, including two 3-pointers.

Fairfield held Mississippi to 27 percent shooting in the second half.
