BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Four Saint Joseph's University players reached double figures to lead the Hawks to a 72-41 win over Fairfield University at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Terrence Todd and Michael Bell reached double digits for the Stags, netting 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hawks started quickly and never looked back in the game. Saint Joseph's scored the game's first points on Chet Stachitas' jumper just 33 seconds into the game. Faifield tied the game when Alvin Carter hit a short jumper on its next possession. The visitors took control from the point, using an 18-7 run over the next eight minutes to take a double digit lead at 20-9.
Saint Joseph's never led by less than that 11-point bulge, building a lead as many as 18 points in the first half, 34-16, with 1:49 left in the opening period. Rob Ferguson made five of six field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes for 10 points. Bell was Fairfield's top scorer in the half with seven markers.
The Hawks did not relent in the second half, opening the period with an 18-5 spurt that pushed the lead to 29 points at 52-23. Fairfield showed some lfe with a quick run to make the score 56-33 which included five points from Todd and a three-pointer from Bell. However, Saint Joseph's regained its composure and retook its 29-point lead with 5:48 left on the clock.
The Stags are off for the rest of the week, returning to action on November 28 when they host Providence College at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm.
