Fairfield, Conn. -- Darren Phillip moved into second place among the Division I men's basketball rebounding leaders, averaging 11.6 caroms per contest. He trails only Penn State's Jarrett Stephens, who has a 12.2 rebounding average.

Phillip has been the team's top rebounder in each game this year, hitting double digits in all but two of the Stags' 10 outings. The center/forward collected a double-double in five games this year, highlighted by a 22-point, 11-rebound evening in Fairfield's win over Iona. Over the last five games, Phillip averaged 13.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game. He remains the only player in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) to average a double-double for the season.

Phillip finished the 1998-99 season as the 15th leading rebounder, averaging 9.9 caroms per contest. Earlier that season, the Brooklyn native led the nation in rebounding.

Fairfield returns to MAAC play on January 5 when it travels to Marist College for a 7:30 pm tip-off. The Stags bring a 3-7 overall record and a 1-1 MAAC mark into that outing. The Red and White do not return to Alumni Hall until January 18th when they host Loyola College (Md.) in a conference game.
