Fairfield, Conn. -- Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.) earned his first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week award, averaging 11.5 points, three rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in two wins.
The center established a career-high with 19 points in the Stags' 85-67 win over Marist College on February 14. Thomson netted seven of eight shots from the floor and added five free throws in six attempts in the game. His previous scoring high was 18 points, which he registered in the Stags' 91-83 win at St. Francis, N.Y.
The rookie tallied four points, four rebounds and blocked three shots in the Stags' 95-86 win over George Mason on January 20. The three blocks tied his career-high, which he accomplished in four previous games.
For the season, Thomson averages 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He is the only Fairfield player to start all 16 games this year. He is shooting 47 percent from the floor (40 of 86) and 68 percent from the free throw line (44 of 65).
Fairfield University, under the guidance of third-year head coach Tim O'Toole, owns a 7-9 overall record and 3-4 MAAC mark.
