FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University home stand continues at the Arena at Harbor Yard as the Stags will host Saint Peter's College on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm.
The Red and White are coming off a 19-point win over Loyola College, defeating the Greyhounds by a 75-56 score. The Stags started the second half with a 22-0 run, which erased a six-point half time deficit. Michael Bell tallied career highs with 20 points and six rebounds, while teammate Terrence Todd added 20 points to the cause.
Rob Thomson picked up nine rebounds against Loyola, which puts him just two rebounds shy of 500 career caroms. He has 135 rebounds for an average of 7.5 per game to date. The center just missed another double double by scoring 14 points and nine rebounds. Thomson has four double doubles to his credit this season.
Todd continues to play well at the Arena, where he has scored at least 18 points in each of the team's five home games. He netted 18 poinhts against both Fordham and Marist, and surpassed that mark with 21 points in an overtime win against George Washington. He surpassed that total with 24 markers in the Manhattan game, before netting 20 points versus Loyola. Todd is averaging 20.1 points per game at the Arena, and 14.9 points per game for the season.
Saint Peter's is off to its best start in nearly 15 years as a weekend win over Marist College improved the team's record to 11-6. The 1990-91 team owned a 13-4 mark after 17 games, and went on to a 24-7 mark with a MAAC tournament title. Keydren Clark, who scored a season-high 38 points in the Marist game, was named the MAAC Co-Player of the Week with Niagara's James Reaves.
Clark averaged 30.3 points in three wins last week, which raised his scoring average to 27.1 points per game. He is the only Peacock to average better than 10 points per game, as Shane Nichols just falls short with 9.8 ppg. Saint Peter's has won three in a row and six of its last seven games.
The Stags finish off their four-game homestand with a game against Siena College on January 31, which will also be televised on ESPN2. The game is scheduled for a 4:05 tip off that day.
