FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Michael Van Schaick (Glens Falls, N.Y.) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) co-player of the week after leading the Fairfield University men's basketball team to a 3-0 week. The senior averaged 17.3 points per game, and tallied eight three-point baskets over the three-game run.
The guard started the week by tossing in a team-high 23 points in a 70-67 win over Iona College, shooting 50 percent from the floor with four three-point field goals. He followed up with a 15-point performance against Saint Peter's College, dishing off a team-best six assists. The week concluded with Van Schaick netting 14 points in a 68-56 win over Niagara University. He played 117 out of a possible 125 total minutes in the three games.
Van Schaick remains the team's top scorer overall with 14.1 points per game. He ranks among the MAAC leaders for three-point field goals per game (2.76) and three-point field goal percentage (.400). Plus, he is the conference leader in free throw percentage at 85.2 percent. He already ranks fourth all-time for career three pointers with 137. Van Schaick has 58 three-point baskets this season, and is making a run at the season record of 80 set by Greg Francis during the 1995-96 campaign.
The Fairfield University men's basketball team, under head coach Ed Cooley, owns an 8-15 overall record with a 6-5 MAAC mark. The Stags have won five straight games, the longest winning streak since the 2003-04 campaign.
