FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.) earned one of five spots on the College Sports Information Directors of Ameria (CoSIDA) Academic District 1 University Division Men's Basketball Team. The senior received the honor for the first timein his career. He will appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America national ballot, which will be selected later this month.

The team is chosen by vote of the district's sports information directors (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec).

Thomson, a marketing major, is co-captain of the 2003-04 Fairfield University men's basketball team. He leads the team with eight double double this season, and places among the team's statistical leaders with 12.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 26 blocks in 26 games. He is the only Fairfield player to start all 26 games this year.

The center is on pace to break the school record for career appearances, needing four more games to break Nick Delfico's '03 mark of 117 contests. Thomson was a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic team last season.

The rest of the Academic District 1 team includes Turner Battle from the University of Buffalo (Communications), Craig Forth from Syracuse University (Inclusive Education and Geography), Emeka Okafor from the University of Connecticut (Finance) and Patrick Powers from Brown University (History).

The Fairfield University men's basketball team, under sixth-year head coach Tim O'Toole, owns a 17-9 overall record and a 10-5 MAAC mark. The Stags battle Rider University on February 22 at the Arena at Harbor Yard, the final home game for Thomson.
