FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Five Fairfield University basketball players will take the court at the Arena at Harbor Yard for their final regular-season game on Sunday, as the Stags basketball programs will host a doubleheader. On the men's side, Rob Thomson looks to play in his 115th career game as he continues to move toward setting the school record for career appearances. Thomson, who was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team on Friday, looks for his ninth double double and his third in a row heading into the Rider game. The center has scored 21 points in each of the last two games.
Schrene Isidora, Marybeth Chartier, Milica Miljkovic and Thais Celiberto represent the women's basketball team senior class. Isidora ranks second on the team with a 9.4 scoring average. Rider currently is in a three-way tie with Fairfield and Niagara for third place in the conference standings. Jerry Johnson leads the team in scoring with 18-plus points per game. This game will mark the second time in 11 days that the Stags and Broncs have met, with Fairfield posting a 65-40 win in the first game.
The Gaels nearly erased a 23-point deficit against Saint Peter's College on Friday night, but came up short on its come back bid as the Peahens posted a 58-53 win over Iona. Michele Fahy scored 10 points in the game, as Iona fell to 7-17 overall and 6-9 in MAAC play. Fahy remains the team's top scorer, averaging 18 points per game.
