Fairfield, Conn. -- The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season schedule came to end this evening, and the good news for Fairfield men's basketball fans is that the Stags avoided the play-in round by securing the number six seed in the 2001-02 MAAC tournament in Albany, N.Y.
Just seven days ago, Fairfield was two games behind sixth-place Siena College. But, the Stags responded with three straight victories, including a win over Siena, to finish the conference season with a 9-9 mark. The Saints lost three straight games over the last week, giving them a 9-9 record also. However, Fairfield gains the sixth seed and a berth in the quarterfinals because of its regular-season sweep of Siena College.
The Red and White will play third-seeded Manhattan in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 1. Game time is slated for 9:00 pm. Final seedings for the entire tournament will be available on Sunday.
