FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.) earned his second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) player of the week award after leading the Fairfield University men's basketball team to a 3-0 week.

The senior averaged 21.7 points and 12 rebounds per game, while shooting 68 percent from the floor. He opened the week with a double double against Niagara University, registering 21 points and 13 rebounds. The center followed up with another double double, recording 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in a victory over Iona College.

Thomson capped the run with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds as the Stags completed a sweep for the week with a win over Rider University. He scored the team's first 10 points against the Broncs, keeping the team in the game offensively. Thomson currently owns a 13.1 scoring average, as well as an 8.2 rebounding average. His eight double doubles this season represent a team-high.

Thomson earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 team late last week, which placed him on the national ballot for Academic All-America. The MAAC player of the week award is the second this season for Thomson, as he also garnered the honor on November 24 after picking up 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Harvard.

Fairfield University, under head coach Tim O'Toole, currently owns an 18-9 overall record and is tied for second in the MAAC with an 11-5 mark. The Stags finish the regular season with road games against Loyola (February 25) and Siena (February 28) before playing in the MAAC tournament (March 5-8) in Albany, N.Y.
