Fairfield, Conn. -- Darren Phillip received a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches' All-District 1 first team, one of 150 players honored across the nation. Phillip joins UMass' Monty Mack, Boston College's Troy Bell as well as UConn's Khalid El-Amin and Kevin Freeman on the first team. All five first team members will advance to the NABC's All-America ballot with the All-America teams being announced in April.

Phillip leads the nation in rebounding, averaging 14.0 caroms per contest. Should his average stand at 14.0, he would become the first rebounding leader to average at least 14 rebounds per game since Tim Duncan accomplished the task in 1997. Phillip also leads the nation with 22 double-doubles, and brings a streak of 17 straight double-double games into this weekend's MAAC tournament.

The senior center is also the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.0 points every forty minutes. He joins Canisius' Darren Fenn as the only players in the MAAC to average a double-double for the season.

The Fairfield University men's basketball team (13-14 overall, 11-7 MAAC) enter the MAAC tournament as the number three seed, its highest seed in four years. The Stags are coached by second-year head coach Tim O'Toole.
