FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.) and DeWitt Maxwell (Newark, N.J.) earned a spot on the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) team, as the conference announced its annual post-season honors. The selection was based upon the vote of conference head coaches.
Thomson garnered All-MAAC honors for the first time in his career, making his debut on the first team. Overall, the center finished the regular season with a 13.6 scoring and an 8.1 rebounding average. In MAAC play, Thomson tallied 15.4 points and 8.4 caroms per contest. He tallied 20 or more points in six games this year, highlighted by a career-high 23 points against Rider. Thomson, who is also a CoSIDA Academic All-District player, registered eight double doubles during the season, with six of those performances coming against MAAC foes.
Maxwell also made his first appearance on the All-MAAC squads, picking up third team laurels. The sophomore recorded scoring averages of 10.7 overall and 11.8 against MAAC opponents. He was consistent in rebounding with a 4.9 average in MAAC games and a 4.8 average overall. Maxwell earned the MAAC Player of the Week after he tallied his first career double double against Niagara (15 points, 10 rebounds) during the week of February 16.
Fairfield begins its preparation for the MAAC tournament this week, facing the winner of the Siena College (sixth seed)-Marist College (ninth seed) game on Saturday, March 6 at 9:30 pm. The Stags split with the Saints this season, winning 91-80 at home on January 31, before dropping a 60-58 decision in the regular-season finale. Fairfield also split with Marist College, winning at home by a 74-60 count and losing on the road by a 59-50 score.
