FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore Deng Gai (Sudan) earned a spot on the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) first team, the only Fairfield University men's basketball player to earn MAAC honors. The teams were selected by vote of the conference coaches.
Gai finished the regular season with 84 blocks in 21 games, giving him a conference-high four blocks per game. He recorded his 200th career block in the Loyola game and ranks fourth in Division I with his blocking average. The forward tied for the team lead with 12.8 points per game, and was also the team's most accurate shooter with a .557 field goal percentage.
The sophomore earned All-MAAC pre-season second team honors prior to the 2002-03 season. Last season, Gai was named to the All-Rookie team, and was named the defensive player of the year after blocking 117 shots in 29 games.
