Fairfield, Conn. - Darren Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will represent Fairfield University at the NCAA Foundation's annual Leadership Conference. The conference will take place from May 31 to June 4 at Disneys Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Participating female and male student-athletes will represent all NCAA divisions, 20 different sports and 11 countries.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is, through challenging and though-provoking dialogue and activities, to prepare a diverse group of student-athletes to take an active leadership role on their campuses and in their communities. It will provide NCAA student-athletes with the opportunity to discuss and explore critical issues facing their peers; to enhance their leadership skills; and to promote better communications among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
The 1999 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference will focus on topics identified during the nomination process as well as topics recommended by members of the Divisions I, II and III NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committees who serve as an Association-wide voice for student-athlete issues.
Phillip is a three-year starter with the Stags men's basketball program, earning All-MAAC first team honors in 1999. He finished his season as the teams leading scorer with 15.7 points per game and ranked 15th in the nation for rebounds per game, averaging 9.9 caroms per contest. Fairfield University finished the season with a 12-15 overall record under first-year head coach Tim O'Toole.
