NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.), a center on the Fairfield University men's basketball team, earned a berth to the 2004 All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association team, his first selection to the prestigious squad. The senior received the award at the Association's annual banquet held at the Meadowlands on April 21.

Thomson was selected to the third team after turning in a solid season for the Stags. He finished the campaign with a 13.7 scoring average and 8.1 rebounds per game. Thomson shot 51 percent from the floor, and finished his career by shooting better than 50 percent for his career.

The senior adds the All-Met award to his many honors this post-season, including a spot on the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) first team and the team's most valuable player award as selected by his coaches. Thomson also garnered a pair of MAAC Player of the Week honors during the 2003-04 season. He set the school record for career games with 118 appearances, including 77 starts. He tallied eight double doubles this season.

Thomson , a marketing major, also excelled in the classroom, as illustrated by his third straight selection to the MAAC All-Academic team. Plus, he was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 team, and appeared on the national ballot for Academic All-America.

The Fairfield University men's basketball team finished the 2003-04 campaign with a 19-11 overall record under sixth-year head coach Tim O'Toole.
