Fairfield, Conn. -- Dan Galvanoni signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Fairfield University, beginning in the 2000-2001 season. The guard spent the last two seasons as a starter at Moorpark Junior College (Calif.).
Galvanoni helped Moorpark Junior College reach the California Junior College Final Four last year, averaging 19 points, six rebounds and five assists per game. Moorpark improved from 12-18 in 1998-99 to 26-7 in 1999-2000.
Schools from the Big Ten and the Big East recruited Galvanoni, before he settled on Fairfield. He has three-point range, shooting around 40 percent from beyond the arc last season. He spent most of the year as a shooting guard, but has the ability to play the point as well. Galvanoni garnered first team SoCal JC All-State as a shooting guard in 1999-2000. He is a native of Simi Valley, Calif., attended Capistrano Valley High School where he earned All-Orange County honors.
Galvanoni joins Rob Thomson in the Stags' recruiting class. Thomson, a 6-foot, 10-inch center, hails from Hellertown, Pa. where he plays basketball at Saucon Valley High School.
Fairfield University finished the 1999-2000 campaign with a 14-15 overall record and an 11-7 MAAC slate. The team earned a number three seed in the conference tournament, from which it reached the semi-finals before being eliminated. Head Coach Tim O'Toole completed his second season at the helm of his alma mater.
