Fairfield, Conn. -- Head men's basketball coach Tim O'Toole announced Andy Buzbee has accepted the assistant men's basketball coach position, effective immediately. Buzbee takes over for Al Eford, who left Fairfield University after two years to accept a position with the Boys and Girls Club in Newark, N.J.
Buzbee begins his first season as an assistant coach, after serving as a graduate assistant in the University's academic office. A former forward for the Fairfield University basketball team, Buzbee contributed four years, both as a starter and as a reserve for the Stags. He finished his career with 506 points and 419 total rebounds. The forward became one of the team's top three-point shooting threats in his junior season. After not making a three-pointer in his first two seasons, Buzbee netted 30 of 87 treys in his junior campaign.
Before arriving at Fairfield, Buzbee spent two years at Conestoga High School. He transferred to Archbishop Carroll High School. In his first season with Archbishop Carroll, Buzbee averaged 7.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He led Archbishop Carroll to a 24-4 record and the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship. In his senior season, he averaged 10.2 points and 8.1 rebounds, and earned a spot on the All-Catholic League.
Fairfield University opens the 2001-02 basketball season on November 16 at Harvard University. The Stags play their first home game at the new Arena at Harbor Yard on November 27 when they host the University of Rhode Island.
