Fairfield, Conn. -- Head Coach Tim O'Toole and his men's basketball team faces another challenging schedule which includes teams from eight different conferences. The Stags will face teams from the Big Ten, Big East, Conference USA as well as the full compliment of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams. The schedule includes 12 home games, 14 away contests and one neutral site outing. Fairfield University will play all home games at the Arena At Harbor Yard, a 9,500-seat facility located seven miles away in neighboring Bridgeport.
"We look forward to another challenging schedule which includes quality opponents," O'Toole said. "Plus, we are excited about playing our home games in a first-class facility like the Arena at Harbor Yard."
The Red and White open their 2001-02 schedule with a pair of road games, beginning with Harvard University on November 16. The Stags travel north for game two, as they will battle Big Ten foe University of Michigan for the first time in school history. Fairfield plays its first game ever at the new Arena at Harbor Yard on November 27, hosting the University of Rhode Island. The team begins its conference season the following week, as Iona College comes to town for a December 6 matchup. Fairfield's only neutral site game comes on December 8, when the team plays DePaul University at Madison Square Garden. The Fairfield-DePaul game is part of a MSG doubleheader, as Manhattan College plays St. John's on the day as well.
Fairfield will play nine teams which posted a winning record last season, two .500 teams and seven squads which finished under the .500 mark. All in all, the opposition posted a 236-268 record, a .468 winning percentage).
