FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Roshown McLeod, who played with the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Assocation (NBA), was named an assistant men's basketball coach at Fairfield University. Head Coach Tim O'Toole made the announcement this afternoon.

"We are very fortunate to add someone like Roshown to our coaching staff," O'Toole said. "Roshown is an excellent teacher, and has the experience to help each and every player on the court."

McLeod played two years at St. John's University before transferring to Duke University for his junior and senior seasons. He became the first transfer player signed by Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski. At St. John's, McLeod averaged 7.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 57 games with the Red Storm.

He improved those numbers while at Duke, as he averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game over his two-year stay. He led all Duke scorers following the 1997-98 campaign, helping the forward garner All-ACC first team and AP honorable mention All-America honors as a senior. He tallied 15.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot .494 from the field in his final season with Duke. McLeod played at Duke University while O'Toole was an assistant coach under Coach Krzyzewski.

McLeod signed with the Atlanta Hawks out of Duke University, where he averaged 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds over 34 games as a rookie. He scored 7.2 points and secured 3.1 rebounds per contest in a career-high 44 games during the 1999-2000 campaign. McLeod set a career-high with 24 points against the Orlando Magic, making 11 of 22 field goals including two three-point baskets. After playing in 34 games and averaging a career-best 9.9 points with the Hawks, he was traded to Philadelphia along with Dikembe Mutombo on February 22 for Theo Ratliff, Toni Kukoc, Nazr Mohammed and Pepe Sanchez.

He finished his career with the Boston Celtics, after he was traded with a first-round draft pick for Jerome Moiso on August 3, 2001.

"I am looking forward to working with the guys, and helping them develop as players," McLeod said. "We have a lot of talent on this team, and I'm anxious to help this team win a lot of games. The staff here at Fairfield has certainly helped me make the transition as a coach, and made me feel really welcome."
