Fairfield, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team was selected sixth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's annual pre-season coaches poll. The Stags finished with 56 total points, just two points behind fifth place Canisius College.

Defending champion Iona College was selected the pre-season favorite with 93 points and six first-place votes, followed by Niagara University with 91 points and four first-place votes. Manhattan College moved into third place in the poll with 72 markers, while Rider took fourth place with 63 points and Canisius was fifth with 63 points. After Fairfield, Siena (50 points), Marist (32 points), St. Peter's (17 points) and Loyola (17 points) rounded out the ten-team poll.

Two Fairfield players received recognition on the pre-season All-MAAC team, with both players earning a spot on the third team. Junior Jermaine Clark (Jamaica, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeremy Logan (Bronx, N.Y.) collected the third-team berths. Clark is the Stags' top returning scorer, averaging 12.1 points per game. He also was the team's leader with 93 assists and 35 steals. Logan placed third on the team with a 10.4 scoring average, and was among the team leaders with 3.0 rebounds per outing.

Fairfield finished the 1999-2000 season with a 14-15 overall record and an 11-7 MAAC mark. The Stags, under third-year head coach Tim O'Toole, open their season with an exhibition game on November 8 at 7:00 pm, before starting the regular season at Villanova University in the first round of the Pre-Season NIT.
