FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University has taken its place among the University of Connecticut, the University of Maryland, United States Naval Academy, Syracuse University, Colorado State University, in addition to the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Baltimore Orioles.
Like those other universities and franchises, the Fairfield University athletics program has retained The Leffler Agency Inc. to assist with its athletic marketing efforts. The Leffler Agency will work with the University's men's and women's basketball programs beginning with the 2005-06 season.
"We are pleased to add The Leffler Agency to our marketing campaign in relation to Fairfield University basketball," Director of Athletics Gene Doris said. "Their professionalism and experience will bolster our marketing efforts to bring Fairfield University basketball to the forefront both on the local and regional levels."
The Leffler Agency, which is based in Baltimore, has helped many clients increase their season and group ticket sales since Bob Leffler founded the agency in 1984. The Agency made its mark by promoting sales for several professional franchises before adding colleges and universities to its client list.
Leffler will look to raise the visibility of Fairfield University basketball both locally and regionally through the use of print and electronic media advertisements as well as outdoor advertisements which will include billboards on Interstate 95. Advertisements will run on ESPN, the Madison Square Garden network, TNT, USA, and Lifetime.
"Fairfield Stags basketball in downtown Bridgeport becomes the immediate region's major league winter sport with the proper strategic ad campaign," Leffler said. "As a sports/entertainment attraction, the Stags have great event equity."
Fairfield University will celebrate its fifth season in the Arena at Harbor Yard this year, making the move from its on-campus facility Alumni Hall prior to the 2001-02 season. This year, the University has employed a new configuration at the Arena which will open more than 6,000 seats for each men's and women's basketball game. The configuration will provide a more intimate setting by bringing the fans closer to the floor, and therefore closer to the action.
The Arena at Harbor Yard will also serve as host for the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Regional semi-final and final. The Arena has also been chosen as host site for the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's and women's basketball tournaments as well as the 2009 and 2011 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey regional.
"Fairfield University continues its commitment to the City of Bridgeport and surrounding communities in bringing quality basketball to southwestern Connecticut," Doris said. "I believe we have achieved that goal this year by bringing Saint Joseph's University, Providence College, University of Hartford, and a full schedule of MAAC basketball to the Arena in 2005-06."
Fairfield University basketball season tickets are currently available, and can be purchased by calling the University ticket office at (203) 254-4103. For additional information on Fairfield University basketball, please visit the athletics web site at www.fairfieldstags.com.
