FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Senior center Rob Thomson (Hellertown, Pa.) earned his first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week award today, as the weekly awards were announced by the conference office.
Thomson was an instrumental player in Fairfield's 65-60 win over Harvard University in last Friday's season-opening victory. The center recorded his first career double-double by securing a game-high 16 points and a career-best 12 rebounds in the victory. His free throw with 2:26 remaining in the game gave Fairfield the lead for good at 59-58, helping the Stags erase a six-point deficit. He also blocked a pair of shots in 34 minutes of work.
The Stags, under sixth-year head coach Tim O'Toole, return to action on November 24 when they travel to Big East foe St. John's University.
